A Willys Jeep v.s Isloo mud

by Khalid Omar (Edit Entry)

Fahad wrote in from Islamabad: “My jeep got stuck in Rawal dam & it took three days day & night effort & finally with the help of Col.Ikram (Pak Army) by the help of chain cuppy we pulled it out of that slushy mud. The clutch plate had slipped, I restored it again & beauty is back on the road.” It was truly, deeply stuck, as the pictures below show:

That’s a whole lot of mud to be swimming around in!

A caterpillar bulldozer had to come pull the jeep out!

A used winch will run anywhere from 10-20,000 rupees, while new ones start at 50,000 plus.

Even if you had a winch, there doesn’t seem to be anything nearby to attach it to!

Guys,
Having a jeep is not about “jinnah ka chakkar” . its about taking it out there, exploring nature, taking a risk. taking a challenging and learning from it. I can guarantee that every jeep veteran has learned from getting stuck. Fahad….. good for you. You?re doing exactly what a jeep is supposed to be doing. Axle deep in mud.

p.s. please check to make sure that your mud encounter did not introduce water/mud, into the axles. Usually the axle breathers in Pakistan are not in the best of shape and can lead to water going into the axels.

Farooq on July 20, 2006 5:03 PM (Edit)

Isn’t that a PAk Army jeep? If so, it should not be driven around on private trips…that is a breach of conduct I feel.

Imad on July 20, 2006 11:16 PM (Edit)

Farooq, that’s a private vehicle. The license plate number, which is plainly visible in the photos above, shows it’s registered in Rawalpindi. The Pak army bumper sticker is just a form of personal expression… it doesn’t signify any affiliation with the armed forces.

1 question & a comment. Question is what were you doing in Rawal Dam ?
Comment is that from the pictures it does not seem that a Cat pulled you out, rather a Russian Tractor. Infact it looks like one tractor pulling another one.
Anyway, no one would like to get stuck that way anywhere.

Fahad Ali on August 31, 2006 1:55 AM (Edit)

Sarmad,
I apprciate your concerns. We (Couple of friends) went to rawal dam for sight seeing as we heared that dam is almost dry & being hunter we must racky for the duck movement as well.
Your secong Question need little explanation.Actually there were 4 mchines trying to pull me out.Ist a russain tractor,2nd Messy 240,3rd Fiat Tractor & last one was a catterpillar Dozer. All of them were pullinh me at the same time (4 of them) & during the ist attempt the Russain tractor got stuck in the mudd as well as shown in the PICs as well.
We used chain cupy next morning with the same stucked Russain tractor I hooked my jeep & finaly managed to pull it out of that slush.
For your information I am a very capable off road driver & won the PTV Off road challange Islamabad 2005(Margalla Hills) say it on pujabi :
“Hamesha taru hee dubda heay” means swimer sinks as he knows how to swim.
Regards,
Fahad

Hi Fahad nice job
koi baath naihi hay, jeep kay liay,, jo chalti naihi vo garhi naihi, jo “PAHSSTI” naihi vo jeep naihi. Try to find high lift jacks in pindi they help a lot in such muddy situations. One of my friend Shamsi M-38 also got stuck in mud in Rawal dam and we pulled the machine with little effort of 5 hours with the help of two high lift jacks and one “M-715” extra pull ans I even managened to pull the toe hook of the M-38

Assalaam, Your jeep looks beautiful and attractive. I had owned CJ5 but lost it to some relatives. Always wnated to own a Villys CJ4, learned Pak army had held auctions, wondering if i can take part in one and where can i get info on that? Also, to own a vehicle there in Pakistan what do you need to do? As far as registeration, insurance tags, e.t.c?

Would appreciate your input, enjoy your jeep and i would love to receive your expedition pic’s (along with your jeep)

Take care

Wow…3 days and 3 nites…. sheesh…

Would’ve it be awesome if you had a helicopter to help you the moment you got stuck eh’ (Again, what goes in the Armed Forces, stay in the Armed Forces)

In these kind of conditions, does it help if the jeep is raised by a foot or two (After market shocks, struts, etc.)

Thanks

There should be a National Offroading Championship to see which state has the best offroader huh? ;-)
